"HIDDEN CANYON
DWELLERS:
BAJA CALIFORNIA, MEXICO"
These petroglyphs are found
in the caves and canyons of
the Mexican southwest in
Baja California Sur. They,
too, remain an enigma, with
no one knowing who and why.
We can only admire their
strength and ancient age.
The painted symbols are
copies of markings found in
this area. Many figures
overlap with each successive
generation adding their own
magic incantations to those
of their ancestors. This
does not destroy but simply
preserves the spirit of the
earlier ones, yet adds the
new markings.
Again, the materials in
the weave are cottons,
rayons, wools, and a linen
weft. The beads are bone
pipes and beads with plastic
pony beads. Glass bead gel
was added to the acrylic
paint to represent the
sandstone walls.
