"HIDDEN CANYON
DWELLERS
FREMONT, UNITA CANYON, UTAH"
Hidden away in remote
canyons and caves, our
ancient Native Americans
drew and carved on the
walls. Some archeologists
believe that these figures
and symbols were part of
magic rituals, having to do
with hunting and surviving,
long before the Europeans
came on the scene. All we
know for sure is that they
are strong art figures and
were very important to early
tribal peoples.
Acrylic paint, beads, and
handwoven fabrics of cotton,
wool, leather strips, and
Lurex form the materials.
Rusty bottle caps painted
with acrylic medium look
almost like leather, and
form the borders of this
being’s shield. The
background resembles the
sand cliffs of the
Southwest.
