"SQUARES"
The weaving for this work
was a color study: how to
mix orange, pink, coral and
wine colored yarns. Also how
to blend a variety of
fibers: cottons,
rayon/linens,
rayon/polyester, and a
glitter yarn. It can also be
termed “using up the odds
and ends in the yarn
cupboard”.
The weave structure is
basically an eight shaft
twill variation originally
published in 1962 by Robin &
Russ and company in Santa
Barbara, California. Later
they had a shop in
McMinnville, Oregon. I used
two more shafts for the
selvages, bringing the total
shafts to ten.
Acrylic paints were used for
the background on the
canvas. Lots of stenciled
squares, metal squares, and
square buttons completed the
piece.
Please note that the pink
woven squares on the inside
of the fabric are larger,
while the ones on the
outside are smaller.
